Yesterday was Tax Freedom Day across America. The Tax Foundation estimates how long taxpayers would have to work to pay off their annual tax bill and marks the occasion. Taxpayers in Illinois would have to work until the 26th of April to pay off their total tax bills.

A pro-progressive tax group has released more commercials that will run statewide to convince Illinoisans and their lawmakers to support a graduated income tax. Think Big Illinois announced three new ads Tuesday that are set to run on radio and television in markets across the state. They say a progressive tax that takes higher percentages of a wealthier person's income is fairer than the flat tax the state currently has.
