Temperatures on the rise this week

It's been a while since the last 90-degree day in Illiana, but that streak may end later this week.

There have been 16 days so far this year in which the temps broke 90 degrees this year, but the last time was July 23.
It's been dry and cool. There's been nine days of 90-degree weather in July, five in June and two in May. It has been a cooler August than usual, though."

If temperatures are going to hit 90 degrees this week, it most likely will be this weekend. Afternoon highs will be 86 to 88 degrees through Friday but highs near 90 degrees or above anticipated for Saturday and Sunday.

Area schools follow Illinois High School Association heat acclimation guidelines that require students to take breaks when participating in a physically demanding activity.

In addition to the mild summer weather, most of Central Illinois has experienced dry conditions since late June, although some locations east of I-57 have averaged above-normal precipitation.
