Sunday’s cold temps and the high winds fueled flames that destroyed a 2-story house at Melvin Street and East County Road in Thawville Sunday. Six departments answered the call and firemen were at the scene for 4.5 hours, according to Ford-Iroquois Chief Ralph Denault. A family of four escaped unharmed. Several pets were saved, but one cat was lost.
Chief Denault said the cause was electrical. The structure was engulfed when firemen arrived about 9:25 am. The Ford County EMA contacted the Red Cross to assist the family. A Thawville homeowner offered the family temporary housing.
