A third Illinois State Police Trooper has died on Illinois roads within the first three months of the year. Trooper Gerald Ellis died early Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-94 in Green Oaks. Just two days earlier Trooper Brooke Jones-Story died after being struck on the side of the road near Freeport. In January Trooper Christopher Lambert died after being struck by a motorist.
Today is Illinois State Trooper Day meant to honor state police.
State Police are now stepping up efforts to enforce Scott's Law -- requiring motorists to move over and slow down for emergency responders.
