Timberwolves win, advance to 1A state championship

Cissna Park high school is in the IHSA Class 1A championship game Saturday.  The Timberwolves earned their place in the title game with a 56-44 win today (Friday) over Central A&M in the semi-final game at Peoria.

The win is so fitting , in that it'll be head coach Kevin Long's final game with the Cissna Park guys.  He's retiring at the end of the season. Win or lose, the state final marks the best-ever finish for a Cissna park team.  And there's been several banner seasons for the Iroquois County program.

Cissna Park will need to defeat a powerhouse team in Providence-St. Mel in the champiosnhip match at 1 pm Saturday. Cissna Park is 32-4.  St. Mel brings a 29-6 mark into the finale. Providence was a 66-41 winner over Concord-Tropia in the other 1A semi-final on Friday.
