Republican leaders from 13 central-Illinois counties have voted to elevate Gibson City's Tom Bennett to the Illinois Senate seat vecated by Jason Barickman.  Bennett will be sworn-in Wednesday as the 103rd General Assembly gets underway.  Bennett was selected from a field of five applicants.  The Republican leaders from the counties met to interview the candidates last Saturday in Pontiac.

Bennett has beena voice for the 106th District in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2015.  His appointment to the Senate leaves a vacancy in the House.  The same Republican leaders will choose his replacement to serve in the House.
