Estimates of $30,000 to $40,000 worth of toys were handed out to families in need in Iroquois County Saturday. The Toys for Tots event was staged at the Watseka Depot. Several volunteers made it happen, an event that's brought smiles to many people since 1947.
Toys for Tots Coordinator Bill Nutter said the need is there; "it's a great program, what a thrill to see the smiles on faces of people visiting. Bags of toys were filled and delivered from 9 am 'til 3 pm.
Monetary and toy donations from businesses and individuals throughout the year make the Toys for Tots a success. Seven hundred children benefitted this year. There were 300 families that signed-up.
