Two area men face charges in January 6 Capitol Riot

Two men from Vermilion County have been charged in federal court with illegally entering the United States Capitol during the January 6 insurrection attempt.

Douglas Wangler of Oakwood and Bruce Harrison of Fithian both face charges of entering a restricted building without lawful authority, disorderly conduct in a restricted building.  Authorities received tips following the riot indicating that Wangler went inside the Capitol during the riot.  An 11-second video showed Wangler standing next to a marble sculpture in the building and chanting “U.S.A.” A surveillance video also captured Wangler and a man identified as Harrison inside the building.  The men admitted to investigators that they entered the Capitol and took photos and videos inside.

Both Wangler and Harrison had court appearances in Urbana on Friday. Charges against the men brings to eight the number of men from central Illinois that’ve been charged for actions in the insurrection.
