Two bicyclists hit by semi in Iroquois County

The setting sun blinded a semi driver Sunday afternoon in Iroquois County. Two bicyclists were struck by the semi truck sending an adult female and female juvenile to Hoopeston Community hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sheriff's Police reported 54-year-old Rodney Schroeder of Milford told police the sun blinded him and he did not see the four approaching bicyclists. The accident occurred about five miles southwest of Milford on County Road 500 N.

The impact sent both females into a ditch. The adult was air-lifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. The other girl was treated at Hoopeston hospital. Two other male bicyclists were not injured.

Schroeder was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The incident is still under investigation.
