Police in Kankakee took more than $500,000 in cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine off the street last week. It marked the second time in a month officers made a major drug bust locally.

Jesus Perez-Torres, 27, and Raul Zamora-Quinones, 35, were arrested by Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group agents. Both are residents of Mexico.

According to the Kankakee County State's Attorney's office, the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
Perez-Torres and Zamora-Quinones each were charged with possession of 900 or more grams of cocaine with intent to deliver; possession of between 100 and 400 grams of heroin with intent to deliver; possession of methamphetamine between 400 and 900 grams with intent to deliver; and aggravated possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver more than 100 grams with a firearm found in a home or vehicle.

Perez-Torres additionally was charged with possession of between 400 and 900 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver.

On November 9, Illinois State Police uncovered 13,883 grams of heroin during a traffic stop of a semitrailer at Interstate 57 Exit 308. The street value of that bust would be $1.12 million before it was cut into smaller amounts, according to a prosecutor.

Thursday, officers recovered 4.2 kilograms of cocaine, 462 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 365 grams of heroin as well as a loaded 9 mm handgun.

KAMEG Director Christopher Koerner would not comment how long the men had been under investigation. He did say the two men were not part of an operation KAMEG began in October that led to the arrests of 25 people on charges of delivering cocaine, heroin and meth.
