The July and August rains have saturated the ground, leading to railroad grade crossings being impacted. That’s reason for the very-slow train traffic thru Watseka.
The saturated soils have affected the base for the grade crossings. That’s also affected the track, which has to be repaired. The slow trains are expected to continue until the track repair is completed.
And now comes word from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)... that the Route 24 and Route 1 Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Watseka will be closed for a week, beginning Tuesday, September 6.
The railroad will be rebuilding the grade crossing. The work is expected to take eight (8) days.
Beginning September 6, a detour will be in effect taking Route 1 and 24 traffic around the City of Watseka.
Motorists should use caution and expected delays along the detour route.
