Two people were killed, another wounded in a gang-related shooting outside the Kankakee County Courthouse this (Thursday) morning. Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater said it was some kind of internal battle among members and non-members, that apparently, had escalated.
Chief Robin Passwater said officers arrested two men and recovered “multiple” firearms, including one long-rifle gun, at the scene. Several spent casings were recovered at the scene.
The two people who were fatally shot were Hispanic men in their mid-20s, and the third man who was shot was in surgery. During an afternoon press conference, Passwater said
officers were dispatched to the courthouse in response to a shots fired call at about 9:50 am. The shooting happened between the courthouse and the old-county jail to the south.
Passwater did not talk about a possible motive for the shooting.
