Update: Dwight fire victims identified

Two people who died (Wednesday) in a structure fire in Dwight are now identified as 46-year-old Guy Sassenger and 42-year-old Chad Weber. Both men were residents of the address at 110 Union Street.

The State Fire Marshall spent much of the day investigating. Livingston County Coroner Danny Watson issued a press release stating dental records, tattoo’s and interviews with relatives were used to make positive identification.

The fire broke out about 12:30 am at an apartment house along Route 47.

Dwight Fire Deputy Chief Justin Dyer explained the fire started in the kitchen area possibly on the stove. The fire had consumed much of the 1st and 2nd floor when firemen arrived. Damage was pegged at about $150,000.

Two others escaped without injury.

The Dwight Fire Department was assisted by Gardner, Odell, Braceville, Pontiac, Braidwood, Campus-Emington, Limestone, Coal City, Morris, Mazon, SELCAS ambulance along with Duffy ambulance.
