Condolences are pouring in from area school districts and coaches in support for the Prairie Central School District at Fairbury. Two Prairie Central High School students died Sunday in "a ski-related accident," according to district Superintendent Paula Crane.
Sup’t Crane wrote, "This loss will affect everyone in our school family and in our communities. Students may have a difficult time dealing with the loss. ... We are committed to doing everything we can to help our students and staff with the grieving and healing process."
A report from the Summitt County Sheriff’s department in Colorado states, the two students were killed in a sledding accident at Copper Mountain Ski Resort.
Dylan Bazzell and Drew Fehr of Fairbury were identified by the Summit County Sheriff's Office and Coroner. The 17 and 18-year-olds were riding tandem down a half-pipe. Police reports said they were launched off a snowbank, coming down hard on ice below. They suffered 'blunt force trauma."
Prairie Central schools are on spring break this week. First Baptist Church of Fairbury is hosting counseling, prayer and gathering services in conjunction with the school.
There has been an outpouring of support from local schools and coaches toward the Prairie Central community.
