Some new features this year highlight the Vermilion County Fair at Oakwood.  President Richard White led a presentation Tuesday evcening to introduce the new 'Ag Discovery Zone," a dedication to the late-Mary Alice Stonecipher.  The longtime volunteer and agriculture & horticulture educator died last September. Fair volunteers remember her as tireless worker with a strong passion for motivating younger people about gardening and agriculture.

In previous years, a ticket to the fair only meant access to the carnival. County fair President White said they’ve worked to upgrade the experience at the fair with a $7 dollar fee to enter the fair.  The fee now enters the visitor into a raffle; bicycles being given away.  And there's new attractions for the fairgoer to visit a bouncy hosue and petting zoo.

Volunteer fair board members say it's rewarding to have watched the fair grow.  The event runs thru Saturday with the tractor pulls and demo derby still to come this weekend.
