The Vermilion County Board has placed its proposed $37.3 million dollar budget on public display. The budget proposes spending $13.1 million dollars in the General Fund, but, again, holds the line on taxes.
The proposed new budget includes funding a new Health Educator position and adding one more deputy to the Sheriff’s Department.
County Board Chairman Mike Marron says the Board continues to hold the line. Marron explained some school districts set their levies higher just to make up what the state hasn’t paid. That, he said, is why some property taxes have jumped.
