Vigil held on Kankakee Courthouse lawn

A smaller audience gathered on the lawn at the Kankakee County Courthouse (Sunday)
where a prayer vigil remembered the police-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota last week, or the police deaths in Dallas.

Organizers said the vigil’s intent was to bring people together.

Besides vigils, protests were held in several Illinois communities. Chicago, Champiagn, Peoria and Springfield were among cities where protests were, for the most part, calm. Police in Chicago reported 19 arrests.
