Watseka cancels remainder of varsity football season

Watseka High School announced (Wed) its varsity football team won’t play any further games the rest of the season. The Warriors were scheduled to play the Central Comets Friday in a classic county get-together. Scheduled opponents will be awarded a forfeit win.

The Warriors will continue to play a junior varsity only schedule. There’s four games left on the schedule. Watseka was 1-3 on the season. It’s lone win was a forfeit against Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman in week one.

“This was obviously a very tough decision to make for everyone involved,” Watseka athletic director Barry Bauer issued a statement, saying “it was difficult decision but we felt a necessary one, based on an abundance of season-ending injuries, low student participation, and numerous other contributing factors. The decision is in the best interest of the program and for the current athletes.”
