The Watseka swimming pool will open this season. After a lot of discussion, the City Council decided Saturday the Legion Park pool will open.
It’s hoped the pool will be available for the Memorial Day Weekend, but no exact timetable was announced following the Council’s Saturday meeting.
Public Works Director Marvin DeLahr had told the city leaders (last week) clean-up of the pool and equipment will be completed. DeLahr also said a local resident has expressed interest in managing the pool’s operations.
The pool has been a victim of past flooding. And the recent flood created yet another mess – enough to raise questions about the feasibility of pool operations.
The city budget constraints leave reason for some wondering if the pool is worth the effort, but council-members and others also say the pool is part of the city’s identity.
Management details and hours of operation are yet to be worked out.
The city budget shows $60,000 in a line item for the pool’s operation. Revenues amount to about $12,500 from users of the pool. Local taxes for the pool are listed at about $45,000.
Clifton pool season is ‘all go’......
The Village of Clifton is gearing up for the 2018 swimming season. Several landscaping projects will be underway in early May to get the season prepped.
The pool’s deck will see about $18,000 of work completed, along with landscaping and fencing.
The Village Board hired pool manager Jane Miller ($5500).
