Saturday’s early-morning fire that claimed a life “was an absolute preventable tragedy.” Fire Chief Ken Baier says he’s emphasized from day one, “smoke detectors are available from the fire department FREE OF CHARGE.” He said fire personnel willingly will inspect a residence and install smoke detectors.
Homeowners and landlords need only ask. The fire department has smoke detectors available. In fact, City Code requires smoke detectors in all residences. Just call and the safety devices will be installed.
