Watseka House Fire injures 2 people

A Wednesday night house fire in Watseka sent two people to the hospital – one resident of the home and a police officer.
The injuries were smoke inhalation. The resident was treated at IMH then flown to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. The police officer was checked out for smoke inhalation at IMH.
The fire’s cause was under investigation. Watseka Fire, Crescent City Fire and Riverside Ambulance all responded to 533 S. 3rd Street at 9:10 pm.
The fire started on the outside of the house, worked its way up and into the walls. City Police were first on the scene and advised someone inside was unable to get out. The resident was wheel-chair bound. Police acted quickly, entering the home and was able to get the person out.
Watseka Fire was able to identify hot spots and get the flames out. It was noted, there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
