Members of the Kiwanis Club of Watseka recently learned about the nature conservancy opportunities in Newton County, IN.
Alyssa Nyberg , representative of the Kankakee Sands Bison Program and the Nature Conservancy, delivered a presentation. Nyberg explained the goals and function of the Nature Conservancy, which owns and manages 8400 acres in neighboring Newton County.

The Indiana chapter was established in 1959 and manages over 100,000 acres in the state. In Newton County, 6900 acres have been planted to native prairie. Not only does a healthy bison herd occupy 2 locations on the property, but at least 86 rare, threatened, and endangered species of plants , animals, and insects also thrive in this unique property. The facility provides learning and volunteering opportunities for adults and children.
