Police investigating, names of those involved not released

An unidentified Watseka man was unharmed early Monday during a carjacking episode in Newton County, Indiana. Sheriff’s Police in Newton County are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed a car crash near Morocco or knows anything about the carjacking, is asked to contact Newton County investigators.

It was about 6:20 Monday morning when sheriff’s police received a call about a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 near County Road 300W. (It’s north of the Morocco overpass).

Police report the Watseka man witnessed the crash and called 911. As the witness checked on the driver of the crashed vehicle, the driver displayed a gun and forced the Watseka man to drive him in his car. Police said the Watseka man complied and drove the suspect from the crash scene.

Within a few miles, the suspect released the Watseka man, unharmed. The suspect then fled east in the Watseka man’s stolen vehicle.

Around 8:25am, the suspect was involved in a short pursuit in Marshall County near Plymouth, where he crashed the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody. The man arrested has not been identified. Anyone that witnessed the Morocco crash or carjacking should call 219-474-6081.
