Veteran Watseka police officer Jeremy Douglas is the city's acting police chief. Douglas was named the interim chief by the City Council Tuesday night. He succeeds Roger Lebeck who retired as chief, effective Monday.

Meanwhile, the search for a new police chief begins. The city plans to place ads in law enforcement publications. Mayor Bob Harwood said the search will take time to find the right person.

The City Council discussed requirements for the job, including at least a two-year degree with military experience or a four-year degree.  The chief wopuld also be required to have at least 10-years experience as a certified police officer and pass a physical and mental evaluation.
