A Community Development Block Grant proposal – to address flooding matters – gained the approval of the Watseka City Council this week. that will help pay for studies regarding flood issues.

The city, Iroquois County, and Kankakee and Will County are all participating with several Indiana counties to study the flooding issues that plague much of the Illiana area. The watershed takes in a wide section and mitigation needs have been discussed for years.

State Representative Tom Bennett has directed efforts to get key players to the table for talks.

Watseka’s block grant approval would help cover costs for studies of the flood plain and ways to improve the river banks.
