The Watseka City Council voted 6-2 Tuesday night to approve another video gaming license.  A yet-to-open business at the west juntion of Route 1/24 was granted the license.  The vote reversed a committee vote last week denying the application. 

Aldermen Dennis Cahoe and John Allhands spoke in favor of the application.  They supported the business to keep the west side of town active, adding that the proceeds will only improve revenues. Cahoe also said the revenue generated goes to the police penion fund, which lessens any additional burden on taxpayers paying into the retirement fund.

Voting against the application were aldermen Mike Marcier and Rick Elliott.  The Council has talked about ending any further gaming licenses.  Several existiung taverns already are licensed and two more stand-alone businesses will soon open as gaming facilities.

MARTIN SUB-DIVISION EXPANSION TO GET ANOTHER LOOK ----

Developer John Martin addressed the city council (Tuesday) about earlier reports of the city not interested in further expansion of the Martin sub-division  on the city's southeast side. Marftin informed the members of  a business looking to erect a new facility next to Heritage Woods.  The proposal could generate up to 25 jobs.

Martin said "this is all about progress in a small community that needs to grow and needs the jobs."  He said Gardant Management Solutions is interested in talking to the council about its offer. 

The Council agreed to listen to proposals in the future.
