Possible action on water/wastewater plan
The Watseka City Council re-organizes at this evening’s meeting. Following the April election results, five new aldermen will be sworn-in. Benny Marcier and Donnie Miller will be seated, representing Wards 3 and 2, respectively. Both seats have been vacant for a while.
Also taking their oath will be Dave Mayotte (Ward 3), appointed earlier… and Darrin Rushbrook and Mark Garfield. Garfield was re-elected in Ward 1 in April while Rushbrook was appointed in Ward 4.
The much-talked about and often-delayed vote on the future of the city water and wastewater treatment plant operations could happen as well. Discussion and research has postponed any vote at several previous meetings.
ERH Enterprises, which has managed the system for several years, has presented the Council with detailed notes in attempts to answer aldermen’s questions about the operation.
The Council has leaned toward taking the water system back to make it an in-house operation. Some though, have questioned whether the city’s ready to take on the venture. ERH has been asked about a 3-year extension of its contract.
