Weekend drowning in Kankakee River

Emergency crews were on the scene Sunday on the Kankakee River near Aroma Park, where a 14-year-old boy was an apparent drowning victim.

Several agencies were involved after an emergency dispatch was received about 2 pm.

Illinois State Police reported receiving the call near Aroma Park, learning a 14-year-old male was in the river with four other juveniles when he went under. Police reported the victim did not surface and a multi-agency water / dive team rescue started its search. The search and investigation continued until the body was recovered at 7 pm.

The incident is under investigation.
