No shortage of fun events locally in the WGFA / WIBK listening area. The Watseka Family Festival at Legion Park opened up with the Carnival at Legion Park Thursday. The event runs all day Friday and Saturday. Musical entertainment finds local guy, Nick Lynch, on stage as he opens for Tracy Byrd Saturday. Ashkum's 56th Annual Lions Club Homecoming is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food stands, Beer Garden, Kids games, a Car Show and music all featured. The Anthem Band performs at 7 pm Saturday. A 'live' broadcast on 94.1 WGFA at 12 Noon Sunday. More details at the Ashkum Lions Club Facebook page.
At Dunning Park in the Village of Iroquois --- the 12th Annual Fried Green Tomato Festival is Saturday. A full day of fun, Car Show, Bike Show, Bounce House and Live Music. Of course, plenty of Fried Green Tomatoes. Food is served Noon 'til 5 pm. All the proceeds benefit local organizations. This year's event in the memory of Tim Portwood.
In Livingston County --- the Chatsworth Citizens Advisory Board welcomes the public to its MUSIC on MAIN event today (Friday) from 5 - 10:30 pm. Libido Funk Circus performs offering music from the 60s thru today's hits. The Big Tent is in downtown Chatsworth.
Downstate Illinois --- the DuQuoin State Fair kicks off today (Friday). Several on-stage acts will perform. Governor JB Pritizker will attend a ribbon-cutting event. The Fair runs thru September 5th.
Illinois' high school football season is underway. Watseka hosts Georgetown - Ridge Farm Friday evening with a 7 pm kickoff at Blake Field. WIBK (96.9 / AM 1360) has the PBP. Central hosts Bismark-Henning with a 7 pn start in Clifton. Thursday night, Iroquois West defeated Hoopeston Area and Milford-Cissna Park was a winner over Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland in 8-man football.
