Weekend temps set new record highs

The National Weather Service is calling it a “record-breaking” heat wave in Illinois. More than a dozen cities set records for new Hi temperature readings over the weekend. Sunday’s temperatures set records from the Quad Cities to Effingham.

NWS observations at 94.1 WGFA set a new record high Friday at 68, breaking a 1961 record of 53. Saturday – Sunday readings of 68 tied the 1930 readings.

Forecasters say there's a chance more records could fall by Wednesday.

Meanwhile – citizens in downstate Illinois woke up to a foggy Monday morning. A Dense Fog Advisory was in place until 10 am.

The Benton School Corporation in Indiana operated on a 2-hour delay this morning.
