West Nile season begins in Illinois

It's that time of year again. West Nile season in Illinois has begun.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says health managers in DuPage County found the first batch of West Nile positive mosquitoes last week.

Acting IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi [[en-gozi ]] Ezike [[ eh-zee-kay ]] says the key to not getting sick from West Nile is to not get bit in the first place.

No human cases of West Nile have been reported in Illinois so far this season. Those cases tend to peak in late summer.

Ezike says hot, dry summers are when Illinois sees more people get sick.
