Vermilion County Health Department reports tests have confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus in the county. A dead crow found in Westville has tested positive for West Nile Virus in tests conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The bird was collected by Vermilion County Health Department personnel on September 7th, and sent to the state laboratory for analysis.

‘’Even though summer is nearly over, our department still urges residents to take precautions when they are outside and make sure their homes are free of places where mosquitoes breed,’’ said Public Health Administrator Douglas Toole.

The State Health Department says most people are not affected when bitten by a West Nile-infected mosquito. But some health problems – are most at risk from West Nile Virus.
