The announced resignation of Andrew Wheeler now finds Matt Alexander-Hildebrand elevated to the post of Chairman for the Kankakee County Board. Hildebrand had been serving as Vice-Chair.  Wheeler's departure leaves a vacancy on the Board in Bourbonnais District 26.

The announced resignation surfaced at a special-called County Board meeting Tuesday, select board members seeking Wheeler's resignation for his alleged non-involvement in county board matters since accepting a new job.  Wheeler had submitted a resignation letter to State's Attorney Jim Rowe, Wheeler stating 'you can never make me ashamed of the work I did and what was accomplished here when it was time to do the work.' Wheeler also wrote, 'it was historic work and done in partnership, bi-partisan and often times fun.'

Wheeler served as Board Chairman since December 2016.  He did not seek re-election in this year's Primary Election and his stay on the Board was to end November 30.
