The Will County Health Department is urging dog owners to pay attention and act accordingly over the next several weeks regarding their pets. A canine flu outbreak is currently sweeping across the Chicagoland area.
Although there are no confirmed cases, the health department says if your dog comes in contact with an infected canine it will contract the flu. The only good word is that the fatality rate is low, eight to ten percent.
This specific strain of Canine Flu comes from Asia, so as of right now there is no vaccine available in the Chicagoland area. Officials say the most important thing you can do is pay attention for possible symptoms; many of which you also see in humans. Those symptoms are laziness, loss of appetite, and possibly a cough.
