Windy conditions spark out-of-control fires Tuesday

A large, single-family home was destroyed by fire in Momence Tuesday afternoon. Several departments responded to East Country Club Drive; the initial call was received around 5 pm. A lot of fire and smoke was seen for miles. No injuries have been reported. No word, so far, on the cause.

A controlled burn got away in Essex Township about noon Tuesday. Several area departments battled a field fire for several hours. Essex Fire reported several acres were burned and a truck was damaged.

It was the winds that contributed to several fire calls the last two days. Today is another day of winds clocked at 40 – 45 mph.
