The official start of the winter season is yet to arrive, but the Illiana area took a big hit over the weekend. Snowfall amounts varied, ranging from 3.5 and 4 inches, all the way up to six, seven and even eight inches.

Snow plow operators have had a busy couple of days. Tow truck drivers have had their share of calls too; pulling vehicles from ditches. The pre-winter storm blanketed the area Friday night and eventually let up Saturday afternoon

WGFA 94.1 measured 6.2 when it was over. The Milford area checked in with 4.5 to five inches. A Buckley report registered 8 inches. Reports registered with the National Weather Service (NWS) show 5. 6, 7, and 7.5 inches in Livingston and McLean counties.

In Vermilion County (Illinois), the Emergency Management Agency, says 8.3 inches of snow was measured near Danville.

The intensity tapered off to the north and NW Indiana. Reports from Kankakee County and eastern Will County and Newton, Jasper and White counties in Indiana ranged from 4.5 to 2.5 inches.

Transportation officials and law enforcement have been reporting main highways and secondary roads in the area are in fair winter driving condition. Caution is the word. Scattered slick spots exist and re-freezing is keeping secondary routes very slippery.
