Xandria Harris denied pretrial release

Kankakee Judge rules Harris made no attempt to stop her boyfriend from attack on 2 officers

The woman charged with the murder and attempted murder of Bradley police officers will remain in jail pending trial. 28-year-old Xandria Harris’ motion for pretrial release was denied Wednesday by Kankakee County Circuit Judge Kathy-Bradshaw-Elliott.

Harris and her boyfriend, Darius Sullivan, are both charged with first degree murder and attempted murder for shooting and killing Bradley Police Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and wounding fellow officer Tyler Bailey in December 2021.

Judge Elliott ruled saying, “The state has proven by clear and convincing evidence that Xandria Harris poses a real and serious threat to the community and also to her children.”
The Judge further stated “There is no evidence on this video that [Harris] tried to stop Sullivan. from the attack of the two officers.  Judge Elliott watched about 10 minutes of video from the video cam worn by Officer Rittmanic.

Responding to a police dispatch of barking dogs at a Bradley motel, the officers were ambushed inside the motel by the two defendants.  The defense attorney was asking the court for Harris' release based on the pretrial fairness portion of the SAFE-T Act.
