Illinois lawmakers are looking to improve the state's youth programs to help curb violence in the state. The Illinois House Public Safety and Violence Prevention task force met with youth employment program leaders to discuss ways to improve them. Youth employment programs are a successful way of curbing violence in the state, however, Illinois has seen a lack of funding according to Adam Schuster of the Illinois Policy Institute. Youth unemployment for people ages 16-24 is the highest among all age groups over the past 10 years in Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
