It’s not etched in stone just yet, but the Watseka City Council voted 5-2 (Tues night) approving an amendment ordinance to regulate any state-approved cannabis facilities that might surface locally. A special-use permit would be required calling for any applicant to meet set-standards before a cultivation center or dispensary could set up shop within city limits. Retail versus manufacturing zoning would also come into play.

Mayor John Allhands says there’s a lot of pro and con to be considered ....   "I'm encouraged by the discussion, lot of questions," Allhands said. ." Some think this would burden law enforcement, but it's law in the state."

Marijuana use becomes legal in Illinois January 1 (2020). What local officials have to understand (municipal or county) is that any local-control is not about legally allowing it, but just to regulate where such facilities locate.

Aldermen Donnie Miller, Mona Ullfers, Mark Garfield, Brandon Barragree and Darrin Rushbrook voted in favor of the ordinance; Benny Marcier and Dennis Cahoe voted No. Dave Mayotte was absent.

The mayor added, there could be changes moving forward...  "it's passed but laws and other regiulations could change."
