Illinois State Police made a traffic stop and found a stolen AR-15 rifle in the trunk of a woman’s car. 24-year-old Nicole Horton of Carbondale was stopped for speeding in Will County last weekend. She had the weapon which was reported stolen two-months earlier from a police vehicle in southern Illinois.

Troopers made the stop for speeding along I-57 near the Manhattan Road. The smell of marijuana from inside the car prompted a search. That’s when it was discovered a 9 mm hand gun and ammo was hidden in a booster seat Horton’s 3-year-old daughter was sitting on. A rifle and two magazines were also found in the vehicle.
