Newton County, IN Sheriff's Police are again warning citizens about callers soliciting money over the phone. A local resident received a call from what appeared to be a Morocco (285) number, claiming to collecting donatiuons for veterans. The person getting the call asked the caller to send a donation envlope with details how to made a contribution. With that, the caller became rude and insisted the local citizen commit to an amounty and make the donation by phone. The citizen refused.
Police say their not aware of any solicitor-organization originating from a 285 local number. Police also report there is a Veterans Assistance Program for Newton County. Donatioins can be made thru the Jasper Newton Foundation.
Citizens are also advised NEVER give your banking, credit card or personal financial informatioin to anyone over the phon to anyone you don't know or trust. Also, any request to purchase gift cards is a red flag.
