The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office has identified the two fatal crash victims from Thursday’s accident along U.S. Route 45/52. Coroner Bob Gessner said a mother and son from Kankakee died in the crash near the Chebanse Road at 6 pm. Illinois State Police are still investigating.

60-year-old Cynthia Slavin and 34-year-old Clifford Moczynski were pronounced dead at the scene. Moczynski was driving a pickup westbound, failed to yield at a stop sign, and collided with a northbound semi tractor-trailer at 8000 S Road. Ms. Slavin was a passenger in the pickup. The 57-year-old driver of the semi was treated at an area hospital and released. The semi driver managed to escape the cab of the rig before it went up in flames.
