Political news: Hutchinson stepping down from Senate seat

A state Senator instrumental in crafting Illinois’ adult-use cannabis law set to take effect in the new year will step down from the General Assembly and oversee the state’s new program. Olympia Fields Democratic state Sen. Toi Hutchinson will oversee the cannabis program being run by five state agencies. The governor’s office didn’t immediately say what her title and salary will be.

Hutchinson has held the senate seat for over a decade. She notified Senate Majority leader John Cullerton that she plans to leave her position to take over the State's 'Cannabis Czar' position.  Her role will be to oversee implementation of the new cannabis legalization law.
