Tornadoes confirmed in Illinois, Indiana

The National Weather Service is confirming that at least four tornadoes hit the Chicago area, others downstate. Severe storms swept through the region Friday night into early Saturday morning. Weather officials say tornadoes hit Yorkville, Bartlett and Hanover Park, Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Schererville and Merrillville, Indiana. Wind damage was also reported in eastern DeKalb County, western and northwestern Kane County and in Elgin.

The NWS also confirms at least three twisters touchdowned in central parts of the state. One EF-2 tornado started near Neoga and ended south of the Charleston-Mattoon airport.  EF-1 tornadoes were also sited north of Mattoon and in Paris, IL.

Damaged buildings were reported in Flatville, in northeast Champaign County and also at Gordyille.

Latest numbers from the national-front has 42 people dead after severe weather hit parts of the South and MIdwest over the weekend.
