A utility company's sub-station was damaged in northwest Indiana overnight. NIPSCO reports one its distribution sites at DeMotte was heavily damaged from the violent weather. Jasper County had 900 people in the dark. Winds were clocked at 60-70 mph, downing power lines and trees. Damage was reported in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Survey teams are reviewing the damage to determine whether it was a tornado or high winds.
Com-Ed had more than 10,000 customers without power early today. Most have been restored. Areas near Grant Park and Momence were still without around mid-day (Tues).
Ameren also had 13,000 customers without their service Monday night.
