Trooper Peter Stephan died in a car accident Friday night. It happened on Old State Road 25, south of Stair Road. Trooper Stephan was a four year veteran of the force, working from the Lafayette post.

The 27-year-old Stephan leaves behind his wife and six-month-old daughter. The Post has a squad parked out from in Lafayette to honor the trooper. An account has been established at Old National Bank on behalf of the family. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation can do so at any branch of that bank.

Stephan's funeral and memorial arrangements are still being planned.

The accident happened on Old State Road 25 near Stair Road.  Stephan was responding to assist another trooper during an emergency when his squad left the road, flipped and hit a utility pole.
