Emergency responders were busy tracking a hot air balloon that reportedly hit utility wires in Lake County, IN Sunday. The balloon was seen descending near State Road 2 and headed toward Newton County over I-65. The Lowell Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff's Department confirmed they had reports of the balloon making a crash landing in the vicinity of SR 2. A second balloon was also involved, but made a safe landing.
Emergency responders reported three people onbaord the balloon were hospitalized, two with critical injuries. Fire personnel reported the injured suffered severe burns. The balloon crashed into a farm field near Lowell. The FAA is investigating.
