Watseka Fire Responds to House Fire

The Watseka Fire Department responded to a house fire at 401 E. Sheridan Street yesterday.

According to the fire report, a smoke detector alerted the occupants and they discovered a fire in the basement. They quickly got themselves and the animals out of the house and called 911 at the same time.

Fire units arrived on scene at 10am and the fire was under control at 10:15am. 6 occupants, 3 cats, and 1 dog were displaced. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist.

One occupant was transported to IMH for smoke inhalation but there were no life threating injuries. The main body of the fire was kept to the basement and damage included the contents within the basement, heavy smoke and water damage to the basement, and the rest of the house had some smoke damage.

The cause was determined to be a power failure within some chargers sitting on a desk that caught the product around it on fire which then spread.
