This is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community are recognized. This week-long event, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public.
County Sheriffs, State Police, City Police and Fire, and EMS responders extend their gratitude to all dispatchers., the front-line people that take charge in emergency situations.
"Most people don't even know who these 9-1-1 people are. Yet, it's these radio operators who talk their way through all emergencies," says Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley. "They provide all means of needed communication to keep all concerned safe." Briley says "what they do is amazing and nobody knows who they are."
Governor JB Pritzker proclaimed April 13-19, 2025, as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Illinois in recognition of the vital contributions telecommunicators make to the safety and well-being of Illinoisans.
