A solar farm, energy storage facility is in the works for Iroquois County. A Chicago firm – Allium Renewable Energy LLC – has a 380 acre site near Buckley planned. It’s in Artesia Township.
Louis Creek Solar would be a 50 megawatt solar farm, along with a 10 megawatt battery storage facility, that could be operational in early 2027. Construction is expected to be underway this next year (2026).
Land use permits are being acquired (according to the Ford County Chronicle). Developers have reportedly reach agreement with Ameren to make connections to the electrical grid.
Louis Creek Solar is expected to produce ample renewable energy to provide power to some 8,000 homes annually. Proposed economic benefits means $8 - $9 million in local property tax revenue over the project’s life span. The company says 100 local jobs are expected.
Economic beneficiaries include the Buckley Fire Protection District, PBL School District, Parkland Community College, Artesia Township and Iroquois County government.
